How our comparison works
This page explains, plainly, what we compare, in what order we show it and how eSIM Podium makes money. It is linked from every page of the site.
What we compare
We compare travel eSIM plans from a selection of providers, for the destinations we have published. This comparison is not exhaustive: other providers exist, and we add more over time. The list of providers compared appears at the bottom of every destination page.
We include one-off, data-only travel plans: no subscriptions, free trials or plans with calls.
Prices are taken from each provider’s official website or feed, as the provider shows them, without promo codes and without currency conversion; crossed-out prices are not used. Every page shows the date of the price check, and the time we checked each provider appears in the full list of plans. We keep a dated copy of every check. The price on the provider’s website is the one that counts: if it differs from ours, email us at contact@esimpodium.com and we will fix it.
How plans are ranked
- The podium: for the trip length and usage you enter, we take the cheapest plan from each provider that covers your trip (enough days, and enough data or an unlimited plan), then rank them by total price, cheapest first. Above 25 GB, only unlimited plans are kept. The suggested amount of data comes from daily benchmarks: 0.2 GB for maps and messages, 0.6 GB for social media, 1.2 GB for video and video calls, 1 GB for hotspot use.
- Currencies: a price stays in the currency the provider shows it in. When a provider shows only one currency, we do not convert its price; to rank it among the others, we use the European Central Bank reference rate on the day of the check.
- “Our pick”, when a page shows one: 1 to 3 plans we recommend for your trip, based on total price, price per GB, the local network used, our tests (installation, speed, stability), hotspot support and customer support. The commission we earn is never part of this choice.
- “Ad”: a spot highlighted because it earns us more, or because it was paid for. It is always labeled “Ad”.
- “Our brand”: the publisher of this site, Artixia, also sells its own eSIMs for Japan, under the PlanJapan brand (PlanJapon in French and Spanish). These offers always carry the “Our brand” label, and they appear on the podium at the place their price gives them, like every other plan.
How we make money
When you buy an eSIM after clicking a link on eSIM Podium, the provider may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. Some links earn us nothing: we show them anyway.
We take part, or have applied to take part, in the affiliate programs of some of the providers we compare. These programs do not affect the podium or “Our pick”: only “Ad” spots depend on them. We also sell our own eSIMs, labeled “Our brand”.
Our tests
We will buy eSIMs and test them on the ground: installation, speed, stability. Each published test will give its date, its place and the name of the person who ran it. Until a page shows a test, its ranking is based on prices alone.
