Email usWhat is an eSIM?
A digital SIM card built into your phone. You install it by scanning a QR code or from the provider’s app, with no card to insert and no shop to find when you land.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Most recent smartphones do: iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, most Samsung Galaxy phones since the S20, depending on the model and country. The phone must not be locked to your carrier. To check, dial *#06#: if an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM.
When should I install my eSIM?
Ideally the day before you leave, on Wi-Fi: it takes two minutes. Most plans only start at your first connection abroad: when you land, you turn on the line and data roaming.
Do I keep my WhatsApp number?
Yes. WhatsApp stays linked to your usual number, even when your data goes through the travel eSIM. You keep your chats and contacts without changing anything.
Can I make calls with a data eSIM?
A data eSIM does not give you a local number: you call over the internet with WhatsApp, FaceTime or Messenger. Your usual SIM can stay on to receive texts, such as codes from your bank.
How do you make money?
When you buy an eSIM after clicking one of our links, the provider may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. It is never part of “Our pick”: everything is explained in How our comparison works.
